Funeral Cover

Who is eligible for cover?

  • No medical underwriting required.
  • Individual Plan covers the policyholder.
  • Family Plan covers the policyholder, one spouse and up to six children.
  • Parents and parents-in-law can be added as a separate optional benefit.
  • A mentally or physically disabled child who is fully dependent on the policyholder is covered till death.
  • 6-month waiting period for all natural causes. None for accidental death. 24 months for suicide.

All dependants must be added upfront and their correct personal details supplied when the policy is taken. New born children can be added within 3 months of the birth, with no waiting period. Waiting periods apply to anyone else added. A new spouse and parents-in-law can be added within 3 months of the marriage. A maximum of 2 policies per individual is allowed, not exceeding N$100,000 in total. One spouse can be covered, with a marriage certificate required at claims stage only. Premiums are paid by debit order or Employer Stop Order; no advance payments are allowed.

The Benefits

No medical examination

No medical tests are needed and no medical questions need to be answered.

Cover for life

Cover does not end provided all monthly premiums are paid.

No waiting period

For death due to an accident.

Premium waiver

Should the policyholder pass away, and the policy has been in force for at least 12 months, the insured lives (excluding parents and parents-in-law) will be provided cover for 12 months without any premiums having to be paid during this period. Thereafter the spouse of the policyholder may continue with the policy by paying the monthly premiums without additional waiting periods being served.

Oshitondoka Memorial Cover

Available for the policyholder only. Should the policyholder pass away, an additional 35% of the cover selected will be paid out to cover the costs associated with the memorial arrangements. For example: if you select a cover of N$10,000, an additional amount of N$3,500 will be paid out towards the memorial arrangement costs.

Double Accident Benefit

Should the policyholder or their spouse die due to an accident, the Double Accident Benefit pays out an additional 100% of the selected cover, on top of the cover amount.

Cover increase

You can increase your cover at any time and normal waiting periods will apply to the increase in cover for natural deaths.

Out of country cover

Should you travel on business or leisure, you will continue to be covered anywhere in the world for up to 12 months. You may increase the 12-month period by informing us in writing and we will confirm before this is effected.

How do I claim, and how quickly are claims paid?

Notify Liberty, your registered broker or agent within 6 months of the date of death. You then have a further 6 months to submit the supporting documentation, so 12 months in total.

All valid claims are paid within 48 hours after all required claim documents have been submitted.

Is medical underwriting required?

No. No medical tests are needed and no medical questions need to be answered.

Are there additional benefits included?

Yes. Oshitondoka Memorial Cover, Emanya Tombstone cover, body transportation, the Double Accident Benefit, and the premium waiver.

What is the Emanya Tombstone add-on?

The Emanya Tombstone add-on provides additional cover for tombstone expenses, available in N$10,000 and N$15,000 options for both Individual and Family plans. This benefit is for the policyholder and spouse.

How does the body transportation add-on work?

Body transportation covers the move from parlour to parlour, the place of death to the place of burial, for a distance of 30km or more and within the borders of Namibia. It is charged at N$4.50 per kilometre per person.

On the Individual Funeral Plan the premium is N$9.00 per person. On the Family Funeral Plan it is N$9.00 for the policyholder, plus an additional N$9.00 per person for spouse and children.

Are disabled children covered?

Yes. A mentally or physically disabled child who is fully dependent on the policyholder will be covered till death.
